Reflective Practice
What is Reflective Practice?
Reflective practice is the act of examining your own thoughts, feelings, and responses to your work. This self-reflection promotes personal growth and self-awareness.
Reflective Supervision / Consultation
Reflective Supervision and Consultation, on the other hand, is a structured, relationship-based process. Here, professionals meet regularly with a trained facilitator—often called a reflective supervisor or consultant—to discuss experiences, challenges, and reflections.
The Process:
This process allows reflective practice to happen within the context of a consistent, trusted relationship. Through it, professionals deepen self-awareness, gain fresh perspectives, and inform their work, ultimately improving their responsiveness to infants, toddlers, and families.
Why is this important? In our field, where complex needs and high-stress situations are common, reflective practice and reflective supervision and reflective consultation support professionals’ well-being and resilience, which directly impacts the quality of care they provide.
